| Tyler Lodge No. 1233 was formed and chartered in December 1925. Most of the 55 Master Masons who signed the request for charter came from St. John's Lodge No. 53 that was chartered by the Grand Lodge of Texas on January 19, 1849, in Tyler, Texas. The first meeting of Tyler Lodge No. 1233 was held on New Year's Eve 1925. Right Worshipful C. A. Lanier, District deputy Grand Master, named Brother Will D. Pace as Marshall and the following officers were duly and constitutionally installed: Oscar Burton, Worshipful Master; Tory Smith, Senior Warden; J. B. Miller, Junior Warden; Norman Smith, Treasurer, P. K. Birdwell, Secretary; P. T. Cole, Senior Steward; Marvin Roland, Junior Steward, and E. I. McKnight, Tiler, and Dixie Lodge No. 272 of Troup loaned their jewels for the new lodge's initial meeting. A committee of three was appointed to draft by-laws and Saturday night, January 2, 1926, was designated as the first stated meeting for the lodge. Later in the evening, with all officers in their proper places, at 12:01 A.M., January 1, 1926, District Deputy Master C. A. Lanier delivered the charter of Tyler Lodge No. 1233 to Oscar Burton, Worshipful Master.
Tyler Lodge met in 5 different places before a new building was constructed at 1329 East Fifth Street. The first meeting in the new Lodge room was held on February 26, 1963, with 96 Masons signing the register. The building was dedicated by Grand Master Jim Weatherby on March 13, 1963.
Tyler Lodge managed to survive the Great Depression years of the 1930's. During this time maintaining membership was difficult but by 1939 membership had increased. Membership during World War II saw a boon time increase of the members to 629. Many soldiers serving at the Camp Fannin Army Training Center petitioned the Lodge as well as many soldiers already Masons affiliating with Tyler Lodge.
After 84 years Tyler Lodge looks to the future to make our fraternity a success in our Masonic community.
